In light of Covid 19, are you still running weddings & events?

Colchester Weddings at the Town Hall and Colchester Castle are open for business and events, there are no restrictions on guest numbers. We highly encourage masks to be worn by all guests and hand sanitiser to be used upon entry to the venue however this is no longer compulsory.

Is it possible to view your venues?

Yes!

Our venues are open for viewing, appointments must be booked in advance.

I have a wedding booked at one of your venues in the coming months and am concerned about Covid 19, what should I do? 

Please email any concerns to info@colchester-weddings.co.uk and one of the team will respond as soon as we can. If at all possible please refrain from contacting the venues by telephone.

In your email please let us know the date you have currently got booked.

Who owns the Weddings Venues?

Our team takes pride in hosting weddings within our county’s most historic and impressive venues: Colchester Castle, the Town Hall, Castle Park and Charter Hall.  These venues are owned and maintained to the highest standards by Colchester City Council.

In 2018, the Council established its wholly owned commercial company, Colchester Amphora Trading Ltd (CATL) to provide a range of commercial services to the council. This includes the delivery of weddings via the Colchester Weddings trading team.

CATL pays the Council an annual fee to hire these historic and nationally important venues. All profits generated are ploughed back into Colchester City Council to support the delivery of services to the City’s residents.

Do we need to book a registrar?

Yes! Any wedding venue you book will require you to book your own registrars, we are unable to do this on your behalf. Civil ceremonies are non religious occasions and must be conducted by a Registrar and not by a religious body. You need to contact the Registrars on 0345 603 7632 or registration@essex.gov.uk

Who will be my contact in the lead up to the big day?

A member of our friendly wedding team will get in touch with you 6-8 weeks before your big day.  We’ll arrange a meeting at a time to suit you and walk you through the details of your day. Of course this doesn’t mean you have no contact with us till then, if you have any questions big or small just contact us.

Do I have to use your Recommended Suppliers?

Our weddings team has amazing connections with local caterers and suppliers who we can guarantee will provide the best possible service for your big day. Should you wish to bring your own suppliers please discuss this with our team.

Due to the logistics of the Castle, we do only allow our recommend suppliers within this space.

Can we set up the wedding ourselves?

Our team has years’ of experience in planning and setting up for weddings, therefore we are more than happy to do this on your behalf. However, if you would like to set up for your big day yourself, we’ll be here to support you.  Please get in touch with the team who will be able to advise.
