In light of Covid 19, are you still running weddings & events?

At the moment our venues are operating under the national guidelines and are closed until Tuesday 23rd February 2021.

Is it possible to view your venues under Covid 19 guidelines?

At the moment we are working within national guidelines and our venues are closed for show round appointments. Our teams are currently working from home, please do send through an enquiry, when we re-open we would love to show you around!


My wedding is directly impacted by newly announced government restrictions, what should I do?

If your wedding has been directly impacted by newly announced restrictions, we will endeavour to contact you as soon as possible to discuss your options. If your concern is a result of a government update that has just been announced, please bear in mind that we will be hearing these updates at the same time as you do so we may need some time to process before we can move forward.


I have a wedding booked at one of your venues in the coming months and am concerned about Covid 19 restrictions, what should I do? 

Please email any concerns to info@colchester-weddings.co.uk and one of the team will respond as soon as we can. If at all possible please refrain from contacting the venues by telephone.

Who owns the Weddings Venues?

Our team takes pride in hosting weddings within our county’s most historic and impressive venues: Colchester Castle, the Town Hall, Castle Park and Charter Hall.  These venues are owned and maintained to the highest standards by Colchester Borough Council.

In 2018, the Council established its wholly owned commercial company, Colchester Amphora Trading Ltd (CATL) to provide a range of commercial services to the council. This includes the delivery of weddings via the Colchester Weddings trading team.

CATL pays the Council an annual fee to hire these historic and nationally important venues. All profits generated are ploughed back into Colchester Borough Council to support the delivery of services to the borough’s residents.


Do we need to book a registrar?

Yes! Any wedding venue you book will require you to book your own registrars, we are unable to do this on your behalf. Civil ceremonies are non religious occasions and must be conducted by a Registrar and not by a religious body. You need to contact the Registrars on 0345 603 7632 or registration@essex.gov.uk

Additional charges will apply for this.


Who will be my contact in the lead up to the big day?

A member of our friendly wedding team will get in touch with you 6-8 weeks before your big day.  We’ll arrange a meeting at a time to suit you and walk you through the details of your day. Of course this doesn’t mean you have no contact with us till then, if you have any questions big or small just contact us.


Do I have to use your Recommended Suppliers?

Our weddings team has amazing connections with local caterers and suppliers who we can guarantee will provide the best possible service for your big day. Should you wish to bring your own suppliers please discuss this with our team.

Due to the logistics of the Castle, we do only allow our recommend suppliers within this space.


Can we set up the wedding ourselves?

Our team has years’ of experience in planning and setting up for weddings, therefore we are more than happy to do this on your behalf. However, if you would like to set up for your big day yourself, we’ll be here to support you.  Please get in touch with the team who will be able to advise.
